The Bosch Exchange program was included in the Green Directory at Automechanika 2008 in Frankfurt, and the company has won a further environmental award – the “ÖkoGlobe” – for its Denoxtronic exhaust gas treatment system.
The Bosch Exchange program was included in the Green Directory at Automechanika 2008 in Frankfurt for its contribution to environmental protection and energy efficiency. A total of 25 products and services were selected by a panel of judges for inclusion in a “Green Directory” for visitors to this year’s Automechanika. Simply by recycling starters and generators, the Bosch plant in Göttingen saves 105,000 megawatt-hours of energy each year. This represents an 88 percent reduction in energy consumption compared with the production of equivalent new parts. In addition to this, 240 tons of copper, 440 tons of aluminum, and 2,200 tons of steel is recycled. As a result, Bosch also prevents emissions equivalent to 1,000 tons of CO2.
The Denoxtronic exhaust gas treatment system was awarded the “ÖkoGlobe” in the “Supplier Innovations” category. DEVK Versicherungen, the Automobil-Club Verkehr Bundesrepublik (ACV), and the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) award the ÖkoGlobe in eleven different categories for environmentally friendly innovations in road traffic applications. Denoxtronic cuts the nitrogen oxide emissions of commercial vehicles. Since legislation on emissions was first introduced, advances in engine design have succeeded in reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by over 90 percent. In combination with an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalytic converter, the Denoxtronic metering system developed by Bosch further reduces the remaining amount of nitrogen oxide by up to 85 percent. As a result, the consumption of diesel engines is up to 5 percent lower than with alternative concepts aimed at complying with future emissions limits.
In addition to the version for heavy commercial vehicles, Bosch is starting series production of a version for cars and light commercial vehicles in 2008. Having produced over 300,000 Denoxtronic systems for commercial vehicles in 2008, Bosch forecasts sales of around two million systems for cars and commercial vehicles in 2012.
