In February 2008, Solar Diamant Systemtechnik GmbH produced its 500,000th solar collector. The increase in environmental awareness and technological progress both contributed to this achievement. It did not take long for Buderus Heiztechnik GmbH to recognize the potential of solar thermal technology and begin collaborating with Solar Diamant, before adopting the company into the group in 1997. Today, Solar Diamant is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bosch Thermotechnik GmbH and employs some 140 associates at its Wettringen plant in the German region of Westphalia. Alongside production facilities, Wettringen is also home to the Bosch Thermotechnik GmbH competence center for solar products.
Solar Diamant produces two different types of solar collector. The Logasol SKN 3.0 flat-plate collector is ideal for solar-powered hot-water generation with long-lasting high yields. The high-performance Logasol SKS 4.0 flat-plate collector also generates hot water and provides efficient support for heating systems during winter, too. Both collectors have a lightweight but extremely strong fiberglass framework construction. This design, combined with the fact that the collector can be rapidly connected without the need for tools, means that both devices are extremely easy to install.
Solar thermal technology remains a strong growth market. Progress has been rapid over the past decade. Whereas 9,500 collectors rolled off production lines in Wettringen in 1995, this figure had increased ten-fold to over 95,000 by 2006. Although the main market has always been Germany, exports have become increasingly important over recent years. Production and development capacities are being expanded further in order to meet burgeoning demand both at home and abroad. A previously leased production hall and a site have already been acquired for building work.
