CO2-free drive

Our long-term objective is zero-emission driving. This can be achieved using fuel-cell technology that runs on renewable hydrogen. However, a number of hurdles have to be overcome before this technology becomes a reality, for example when it comes to the service life of the fuel cell, to hydrogen storage in the tank, and to the necessary infrastructure. For fully electrical drives, lithium-ion battery technology has to be developed further. For example, the power density of the batteries must be increased to at least three times its current level. Even if the hybrid drive is just an interim technology along the route to a car driven purely by hydrogen and electricity, realizing a hybrid drive will hone our expertise for developing the electric car of the future. Our research and engineering departments are committed to turning this vision into reality.
